Jeneen Ausk's Artist Statement
Jeneen Ausk, artist self portrait in acrylic and found materialsArt is my way of showcasing what I see when I look at our world.
As a child I quickly discovered creative outlets to express all types of feelings. In my adulthood I found that my work is a necessary outlet to communicate my innermost thoughts to the world. Simply put, for me the creation process is a silent method of expression. My pieces tell the stories of my life without fear or apprehension. They are a window for me to correspond with the motivational forces that drive me.
I begin a piece by selecting objects of inspiration to create a story. I search for stories that lend themselves to visual representation, and then seek out ways to present my perception of the object or issue. I often use discarded materials found at various locations. When I work with these forgotten materials I am reminded that beauty in our space is everything around us, and that we just need look at it in the correct light.
My current work explores the balance of issues I face being a women in the modern state of my city, country, and world. I also feel a tremendous pull to present a lighthearted approach towards environmental preservation. I often mesh these concepts into pieces, which include paintings, decorated bottles, and other mixed media pieces.
